About LA DESSALINIENNE (Old and New Version)
The National Anthem of Haiti was written not in the year of Haiti independance which is 1804. La Dessalinienne was written 100 years later, 1903 to celebrate the country's 100 years of independence. The words were written by Justin Lherisson and the music by Fabre Nicoolas Geffrad. As you may recall, Haiti defeated the french army and on January 1, 1804 declared itself independent from France. The National Anthem, La Dessalinienne, was named after the leader of the Haiti revolution, Jean-Jacques Dessalines.
La Dessalinienne was heard for the first time on November 29, 1903, at the Petit Theater Sylvain in Port-au-Prince. The anthem is considered to be among the best written National Anthems.
This new version of "La Dessalinienne" was rearranged, produced and performed by an young Haitian music composer and trumpeter Jonathan Laurince. His rendition was made for a brass quintet ensemble that he put together with the accompaniment of a full orchestra which gives the anthem a more noble and royal impression.
This rendition of the Haitian Anthem will be officially released alone with a music video that Mr. Laurince produced entitled "La Dessalinienne, The Movie" on May 18, 2012 which is the Haitian Flag Day Celebration. It will be aired on almost all the television networks and all the radion stations that are interested in uplifting and saluting the courage of the Haitian people.
