Dean and members of the Devilwind Band, Live to play, Love to play. And would rather be on the stage entertaining than any place else.
Why this name?
The name comes from watching the whirl winds on the Nevada desert on hot summer days. Those that have been in Nevada for a long time call them Devil Winds because you never know what they will do next. Just like The Devilwind Band.
Do you play live?
Yes we love to play live. And do it any place we can find a audiance. Any time the fans respond to our music is special.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think a lot of good original music would be lost with out it. Record labels are to set on following trends to make money. And by there standerds a lot of great singers and songs would never get heard. Let the fans decied what is good. Not the guy that wants to sell sex.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course. Im a singer, I have to be heard.
The Devil Wind Band was initially put together to record a cd of original country music. The recording was so well received it led to gigs outside the studio. In 1999 the band was hired as the house band for Reno's Palomino Club. The band performed there for the next three years, backing such artists as the legendary Hank Thompson, and Tommy Overstreet. The band also was the opening act for newer artists such as Jeffery Steel, Mark McGwinn, and Wild Horses, and worked with The Statesiders from The Mel Tillis show. All the band members have had careers spanning 30 years working with stars such as Henson Cargill, David Frizzell, Rose Maddox, Buck Owens, Wynn Stewart, and Rick Nelson just to mention a few. Dean Young began his career writing with Cliffy Stone, and Foy Willing from the Riders of the Purple Sage.
