Born in Cleveland, Ohio, James Robert Murray always had an ear for music. With a brother eight years his senior and two older sisters all with different tastes in music, there was no lack of musical diversity in the house. One of 5 children in a single parent household, his working mother of multiple marriages left him to fend for himself. Looking for comfort and escape he picked up his first guitar at age14 but never seriously played until the age of 18. Never liked playing music by others he began to write his own songs but kept them to himself. Met a singer songwriter at age 19 during a Spring Break trip on the beach in Port Aransas. The two started writing and performing right away in San Antonio. After 3 years or so drugs and adultery was the end of the band. Trying to pick up the writing pace to start this own band, lack of material and quality of material held him back for a few years. In 89 he started a band that did all Jim Murray songs. The band had a total of two shows that did quite well with the crowds before it would fall apart due to none other than drugs. In 89 also the year he met and married his wife of seventeen years, which stopped his drive to perform but not to write. He left music for 13 years to help raise his four children, not to play any of his songs again until some friends talked him into putting a band together in 97 but never got it off the ground until Anthill Society in 2003. In the 3 years with the group they quickly put out 2 albums, countess shows in San Antonio, Austin’s famous Saxon Pub, and all points in between though out Texas performing with the likes of Fast Ball (Grammy award winning band), Guy Forsyth, Augie Myers, Miss Lavelle White, Jarrod Bermingham, and locals such as Claude “Butch” Morgan, Two Tons Of Steel, Jimmy Spacek, Ruban V. October 2004 Jim received best vocalist award at Last Band Standing Competition in Marble Falls, Judges note; Jim’s vocals are simply awesome, fit well and drew the crowd. These guys are going places. He was nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2005 M.T.M awards. God Bless asfunction:playTune,2 The combination of Jim Murrays stunning lyrical ability and his arrangements are elevating his music to a world-class level. Self taught on guitar, at an early age Jim exhibited all the traits of a natural performer. His quiet demeanor was left behind when he stepped on stage. Today his on-stage persona helps create the drive and draw for his band's live performances. Never satisfied covering another man's creativity, he found song writing to be a powerful channel for his thoughts and feelings. He has always been an audience of people and human nature. His songs underscore those things we deal with in our daily lives. His turn of phrase drives his powerful lyrics straight to the heart of the listener. Where so many performers are striving for the spotlight, Jim is a reluctant star who draws his satisfaction from the response of his fans. Since January of 2004, their official web site has experienced in excess of 1,000 hits per month. The Society membership has increased exponentially during that time. Radio stations in Europe and the US are giving airplay to their debut album, Low Life.
