Alfredo "Freddie" Lugo was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico (en el Barrio Colombia). When he was eight, the family migrated to New York where he grew up on the Lower East Side.
As an up and coming percussionist in the Big Apple, Freddie worked with some of the best city based groups of the time (1970's). LATIN DIMENSIONS, CONJUNTO CANDELA, CHARLIE RODRIGUEZ, JOHNNY COLON, ORQUESTA TAMBO and CONJUNTO BEMBE are just a few.
Freddie has shared the stage with some of latin music's best and well known percussionists - TITO PUENTE; MONGO SANTAMARIA; PATATO VALDEZ; SAMMY FIGUEROA; JOHNNY ALMENDRA; LOUIE BAUZO (El Maestro) & CHEPITO AREAS (formerly with the original CARLOS SANTANA band).
He has also worked with great artists such as ISRAEL 'CACHAO' LOPEZ, CELIA CRUZ, HANSEL & RAUL, ROBERTO TORRES, LARRY HARLOW & NESTOR TORRES.
A resident of South Florida since 1981, Freddie has worked with ANDY HARLOW, MONGUITO SANTAMARIA jr., ALEX LEON, jazz great SPIDER MARTIN, ÑICO ROJAS & HIS ORCHESTRA, LOS PLENEROS de BORIQUEN w/DAVID RODRIGUEZ, THE MIAMI LATIN JAZZ ENSEMBLE w/FREDDIE LEON & RIC y CONJUNTO SAZON.

But Freddie primarily enjoys working with his own groups. He currently leads three uniquely sounding bands, "SABOR TROPICAL", the "PACHECO TRIBUTE BAND" and the "RUMBEROS" group.
'SABOR' offers a variety of latin dance styles and is geared towards the private and corporate party sector. Playing traditional Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Boleros, the group is a hot dance band that will keep you moving all night. The band also comes with it's own d.j. offering the best in American top 40, hip hop and reggaeton.
The "PACHECO TRIBUTE BAND" is an honest tribute to one of Freddie's favorite dance styles - the conjunto - as performed by one of his favorite bandleaders - the legendary FANIA ALL STAR founder, JOHNNY PACHECO.
The 'Tribute' band plays the original 'Cuban conjunto' in the style of Johnny Pacheco and his featured singers, Monguito 'El Unico', Pete 'El Conde' Rodriguez, Hector Casanova and the great Celia Cruz. 'Tribute's' vocalist is EMILIO AMAYA.
This band is available for dance club bookings, festivals and concerts. There is a special corporate package available which features the conjunto, Cuban cigar roller, dancers and the band in very stylish tropical outfits.
"RUMBEROS" is a group of pure percussionists. Based of the street 'Descarga' (Jam Session), the group simply performs a variety of rhythms with featured soloists and dancers. Ideal if you want to have a show type performance. The group is available to perform 60 minute shows for special functions such as corporate parties, receptions, weddings and overall private parties.
Freddie has a unique sound on percussion and has taught at the METROPOLITAN MUSIC SCHOOL in Miami, as well as privately tutoring many percussionists. Private classes are available at your personal residence at $35per hour.
